Paschal McDonnell – Musician and Composer

Paschal McDonnell is a musician and composer based in the Franciscan Friary in Rossonowlagh, Co. Donegal. Paschal wanted a website that would document his music compositions and his concerts (see concerts section), also providing photographs of the many concerts he has organised for his music both in Ireland and the US. The website provides several photogalleries and mp3 players (see celtic drift cd page). It also documents the CDs that he produces and has been producing since 1996. Paschal’s music is of a traditional music style with hints of other styles interspersed – very beautfiul music, worth checking out.
This was the third revision on Paschal’s website. Paschals redesign was built in several stages, for this verision, there was a slight redesign and tidying up of the design from the previous version designed in 2006.
Not much was changed but some features were added, content was made clearer and the site was ported to wordpress, so Paschal could blog and add news (whenever he gets the time) and where viewers can sign a guestbook. At present working on creating a small online shop to sell his CDS. More on this here soon.
mp3 audio
The site has several audio excerpts from paschals music recordings available on his CDs. These audio excerpts have been developed with a flash mp3 player and mp3 audio files.
Photo Gallery
There are several photo galleries developed for Paschals website, wordpress’s nextGen Gallery plugin was adapted for using in paschals website. The beauty of this plug in is how easy it is to add photos and galleries to pages, the photo is uploaded once, the gallery is created once and it can then be used several times on a relevant page by inserting a very simple code. It means updating and maintaining the galleries is just a case of uploading the relevant photographs, the plug in looks after everything else.
Guestbook
A guestbook solution was also sourced for the website, Paschal also wanted included on this guestbook were entries from the previous website he had, so these were inputted to the new guestbook. You dont often see guestbooks on websites now, but for Paschal’s website, it adds a nice element of interactivity and feedback in one page.
The site has many interesting features that showcase Paschals musicianship as a composer of celtic, folk music. There are numerous photogalleries (see concerts section). Audio excerpts are presented with a simple flash media player (see celtic drift cd page).
