Lee Mullican - Peyote Candle, 1951

I have recently discovered the paintings of Lee Mullican (1919-1998), american painter and art teacher.  Peyote Candle (1951) is such an intriguing world of subtle line and colour.  It drew me in and it reminded me of some of the textures I created in Digital Alchemy.
I find this painting very beautiful and still and peaceful despite all the action of the lines and shapes.

"Mullican was inspired by the peyote rituals of the Native American Church, which uses the psychedelic cactus to produce hallucinations and synesthesia."
